At Madaras Dental, we always strive to preserve the patient’s natural teeth whenever possible. Recently, we treated a case where a patient had an inadequately filled root canal of the upper second molar. Without intervention, the patient would soon have lost the tooth, and a larger section of the dentition – from the canine backward – would have been left without teeth.
The challenge: poorly filled canal
The tooth had an old root canal filling that was of insufficient quality and did not provide a tight seal of the canals. This could lead to:
- chronic inflammation around the root apex,
- pain and recurring infections,
- the need for extraction, resulting in the loss of natural dentition.
Re-endodontics – saving the tooth
In our clinic, we performed re-endodontic treatment, meaning a new root canal therapy:
- Removal of the old filling
- The inadequate filling materials were safely removed.
- Precise cleaning and shaping of the canals
- Modern endodontic instruments were used to achieve thorough cleaning and proper shaping of the canals.
- New root canal filling
- The canals were sealed with a high-quality, durable material to restore integrity and tightness of the tooth.

- The canals were sealed with a high-quality, durable material to restore integrity and tightness of the tooth.
Subsequent prosthetic solution
After successful re-endodontic treatment, the tooth was prepared for prosthetic restoration.
💡 Conclusion:
At Madaras Dental, our goal is always to preserve natural dentition, using modern endodontic and prosthetic methods. This case demonstrates that even a poorly treated tooth can be saved and restored to full function, protecting both the patient’s dentition and quality of life.
